The Netherlands has an increasing number of homes valued at more than €1 million and they now account for 3% of the total housing stock, according to real estate data company Calcasa.
‘At the end of 2013, just 15,000 homes were worth more than €1 million but this has now gone up to 143,000,’ Calcasa said on Wednesday. The total rose by 70% last year, and that is the biggest percentual increase since the company started keeping records.
Most million euro homes are in Amsterdam – some 18,550 in total – and 583 are concentrated on the Keizersgracht, which has the most €1 million plus homes in the country.
The Hague is in second place with 9,300 million euro homes, followed by Rotterdam (4,050) and Utrecht (3,800). The biggest percentual increase in expensive homes was recorded in Groningen, where the number of homes costing one million euros or more rose by 148%.
However, the leafy towns of Bloemendaal and Aerdenhout have the most million euro homes percentage-wise. In Aerdenhout, 74% of the properties would cost more than €1 million if they came up for sale today, in Bloemendaal 59%.
The Konijnenlaan in Wassenaar is the most expensive street for the fourth year in a row.
