Confectionary maker Ferrero is recalling a number of different products from Dutch shop shelves as the salmonella scare spreads across Europe.

The company has already recalled its Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs and other items in Britain, Belgium and several other countries, but has now taken the recall to the Netherlands after two children were confirmed to have been infected.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has recorded at least 134 cases in seven different EU countries, including the two in the Netherlands. Both are said to involve children under the age of five.

The company stresses that none of its products have been found to be contaminated but that consumer safety it its highest priority. All the products in the recall were made at the company’s factory in Aarlen in Belgium.

More than 60 people in Britain are said to have contracted salmonella from eating the chocolate and 26 cases are being investigated in Belgium itself.
