Positive coronavirus cases continue to rise, hospital admissions stable

Nearly 24,000 people tested positive for coronavirus in the 24 hours to Wednesday morning, up over 1,000 on the daily average over the past week and nearly 800 on Tuesday.

In total, 23,789 positive tests were reported to public health institute RIVM within the 24 hour period, a new record.

The number of hospital patients remains stable at 2,535, with a slight rise in the number of people being treated in an IC ward, according to figures from national patient monitor LCPS.

The RIVM also said it had reports of 50 deaths in the past 24 hours. Over the past week, the number of deaths averaged 39, compared with 27 in the week earlier period.

The government has brought forward its next press conference to announce new measures to deal with the pandemic by a week to Friday.
