The family of Ajax footballer Abdelhak Nouri have reached an agreement on compensation with the football club over four years after he collapsed on the pitch.

In July 2017, the footballer – then 20 – had a heart attack during a game in Austria and suffered serious brain damage. He now needs 24-hour care.

In 2018 the club admitted liability for failing to treat him properly immediately on the pitch, but until now there had been no agreement on damages. This January the family had threatened to take the issue to court.

The package covers the cost of Nouri’s care, the loss of his potential earnings and immaterial damages, but the size of the deal will remain confidential, broadcaster NOS said.
