Hotel prices plunge in Amsterdam as tourists, business travellers stay away

Hotel prices in Amsterdam have fallen from an average of €150 per night in 2019 to €95 this year, as the coronavirus crisis continues to impact on both tourism and business travel.

The figures, compiled by hotel sector advisory group Horwath and ABN Amro, show that away from the four big Dutch cities, prices have recovered and may even beat the records set in 2019.

However, in Amsterdam and around Schiphol airport, prices remain depressed and hoteliers are expecting a slow recovery, as international tourists and business travellers stay away.

Howath is forecasting an occupancy rate of 31% this year, compared with 85% in 2019. Hotels need a rate of around 70% to break even.

The figures, published in the Parool newspaper, will be formally published later on Tuesday.
