A massive fire on an industrial estate in Soesterberg near Utrecht has destroyed a garage, furniture stores and other buildings, causing millions of euros worth of damage.

The fire, which began in the garage on Monday evening, quickly spread to other buildings in the complex, sparing only the Kwantum DIY store. No-one was injured in the blaze and investigators are now trying to determine what started the fire.

In total 15 fire engines and 150 volunteers were involved in the effort to get the fire under control and three homes were evacuated.

Mayor Rob Metz told broadcaster RTV Utrecht that the fire is a tragedy for everyone concerned.
