The Netherlands’ oldest resident has died in Arnhem at the age of 110. Cornelia Boonstra, who became the country’s oldest inhabitant last September, lived in a nursing home and was in fragile health, the Gelderlander said on Saturday.

She had lived independently until she turned 100.

She was born on October 6, 1910 in Herwijnen in the Betuwe region and married in 1939. The couple went on to have six children. Kneelie, as she was known by her husband, had been a widow since 1963.

She put her long life down to working hard and living a natural life, never wearing makeup or using medicine, the paper said.

Some 2,400 people over the age of 100, live in the Netherlands, most of whom are women. As yet, it is not clear who now has the title of oldest Dutch person.
