Frank de Boer has unveiled his squad of 26 players for this summer’s European Championships, which includes two teenagers – Jurriën Timber and Ryan Gravenberch, both of whom are 19 – but leaves out Steven Bergwijn.

Bergwijn has spent much of the second half of this season on the bench at Tottenham Hotspur.

Daley Blind has recovered from an ankle injury in time to be included but captain Virgil van Dijk had already said he would not be fit enough to lead Oranje this time round.

‘It is always complicated to put together a squad,’ coach De Boer said. ‘You have to make choices, and that is what we have done.’

The squad will play friendlies against Scotland next week and Georgia on June 6 ahead of the start of their European Championships campaign against Ukraine on June 13.

Coronavirus

Meanwhile, according to broadcaster NOS, six players in the squad have refused to be vaccinated against coronavirus.

Players had been offered the jab at their training camp in Zeist, courtesy of the Dutch football association.

‘I think six or so of the lads have not had a jab,’ De Boer said. ‘Many of them have already had coronavirus, so that could be a reason.’
