Another 6,257 positive coronavirus tests were recorded on Monday, marking the third day in a row that the average number of cases in the past week has fallen.

The figure was almost 13% lower than last Monday’s figure and means the average number now stands at 8,083, according to the public health agency RIVM.

The number of patients being treated in hospital for coronavirus increased by 40 to 2,572, of whom 813 are in intensive care. The latter number is 28 lower than on Sunday but there is no sign yet of a steady decline in intensive care occupancy.

Another 13 deaths from Covid-19 were confirmed in the last 24 hours, against a seven-day average figure of 18. A week ago an average of 21 deaths a day were being recorded.

In the last two weeks coronavirus infections have been reported at 176 nursing homes, a figure which has fluctuated between 165 and 180 for the last two weeks.

According to the RIVM’s estimates 5,207,495 vaccine doses have been given so far, with another 729,732 planned for the coming week.
