Ajax are out of the Europa League following a 1-1 away draw against AS Roma. Ajax lost the first leg in their quarter final tie against the Italians 1-2 in Amsterdam.

Brian Brobbey, the 19-year-old who is leaving Ajax transfer free for RB Leipzig at his own request, put the Dutch side ahead in the 49th minute. Edin Dzeko equalised for Roma 23 minutes later.

‘It’s frustrating. The better team has been eliminated,’ Ajax coach Erik ten Hag said after the game. ‘The team that dominated both matches. It’s such a shame. Just like last week we created plenty of chances but failed to take advantage of them.’

‘At this level, it’s about taking the chances that come your way, and that missed Dušan Tadić penalty in the first leg proved to be the turning point,’ Uefa reporter Derek Brookman said. ‘Just like in other recent European campaigns, Ajax will garner plenty of praise but fell short when it comes to prizes.’

At home, Ajax are currently nine points clear at the top of the Eredivisie with a game in hand.
