The Netherlands have been handed a good chance of reaching the World Cup in 2022 after they were drawn with Turkey and Norway in their qualifying group.

Oranje, who are currently 14th on FIFA’s world ranking list, avoided potentially tricky second-string sides such as Wales (ranked 18th), Poland (19th) and Sweden (20th) to pull out 32nd-ranked Turkey and Norway, who are 44th.

Montenegro, Latvia and Gibraltar are the other teams in Group G. The qualifying competition will run from March next year until November 2022, with the finals in Qatar starting on November 21.

The Dutch will be aware of the fact that Turkey progressed at their expense the last time they met competitively in the qualifiers for Euro 2016. Oranje have had more success against Norway, winning three and drawing two of their last five competitive games.

The national team have won all three of their matches against Latvia, while Montenegro and Gibraltar will be new opponents.
