PostNL is struggling to cope with the volume of Christmas cards and letters waiting for delivery and has warned that some post may not be delivered on time.

Some 14 million cards and letters are being posted every day, more than double the average volume, the company said on Tuesday.

Some 30,000 people work at PosNL collecting, sorting and delivering post. ‘We are doing all we can to make sure millions of cards and letters are delivered every day, but we are so busy, some might be delayed,’ the company’s postal delivery chief Resi Becker said.

PostNL has also upped its parcel delivery capacity to 1.7 million items per day in an effort to cope with soaring volumes as the lockdown boosts online shopping to new record levels.
