A 3-1 win over Midtjylland of Denmark put Amsterdam football club Ajax in a strong position to make it through to the knock-out stages of this year’s Champions League competition but Atalanta’s surprise 0-2 win over Liverpool means there is everything to play for in Group D.

Liverpool still leads the group on nine points, with Atalanta and Ajax both on seven and the Danes still on zero, with two games left to play.

‘We know that Atalanta are a great team, and so are Liverpool,’ Ajax captain Dušan Tadić told UEFA.com.So there are three very good teams fighting for the top two places. It won’t be easy, but we’ll just have to see. We need to keep working and building on our results.’

The next clashes take place on December 1, when Atalanta take on Midtjylland and Liverpool meet Ajax.
