Amsterdam football club Ajax scored their first win of this year’s Champions League competition on Tuesday night with a 1-2 away win over Midtjylland of Denmark.

The win puts Ajax into second place in Group D with four points from three games. In the other Group D match, Liverpool beat Atalanta 0-5.

This game could have been easier, and now we had to fight until the end,’ Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag told the Uefa website after the game. ‘I have to give my compliments to the team, that after a difficult preparation, we won this game.’

Ajax had been beset by coronavirus issues in the run up to the match and at one point it appeared several key players would be out of the match.
