There is less support for the coronavirus rules and around one in six people say they will not stick to the new measures as they should, according to a survey for current affairs programme EenVandaag.

Some 17% of the programme’s 26,000-strong readers panel said they would not follow the new guidelines religiously, and half the dissenters said they would virtually ignore them.

Pollster Gijs Rademaker said the number of people not keeping to the 1.5 metre rule has doubled compared with the first wave, when just 8% said they were not following the guidelines strictly.

‘I’m not a virologist, but it is clear something is going wrong,’ Rademaker said. ‘The picture is very different to March and April.’

Adherence to the coronavirus rules shows clear political party lines. Least likely to stick to the rules are supporters of the far right Forum voor Democratie.

In total three in five FvD backers said they would be lax with the rules and 35% would not follow them at all. PVV supporters were also less likely to follow the guidelines.
