Some 150,000 conference pear trees are seeking a new home.

NOS broadcaster reports that a plant grower who cannot get rid of his saplings is planning to give away his excess trees in fifteen different locations across the country, via the tree-planting initiative Meer Bomen Nu.

According to one of the broadcaster’s reporters, there were long queues for a tree at a location in Leeuwarden, and others in Breukelen also found an eager audience. The farmer reportedly needed to clear out the stock to make room for the new year’s trees.

Meer Bomen Nu has asked for pear-takers to think about giving a small donation towards ecological campaigns.
