Dutch coronavirus deaths decline again, 36 new deaths reported

The Dutch official coronavirus death toll rose by just 36 overnight to 5,204, the public health institute RIVM said in its latest update.

A further 27 people have been admitted to hospital, the lowest number for over six weeks. In total, 11,153 have been hospitalised with coronavirus since the pandemic hit the Netherlands, the RIVM said.

A further 232 people have tested positive for the disease, taking the total number of known infections to 41,319, although the real total will be far higher.

Admissions to intensive care wards also continue to decline. On Monday, 644 coronavirus patients were being treated in IC wards, down 39 on Sunday.

All parts of the country are now busy ramping up their regular treatments because of the decline in ICU beds devoted to coronavirus patients. At its height, 1,424 coronavirus patients were being treated in ICU beds, the national coordination centre said.
