The KNMI weather bureau has issued a new code yellow weather warning for Monday afternoon, as strong winds continue to batter the Netherlands.

Gusts of 75 to 90 kph may hit coastal regions on Monday afternoon but they will die down in the evening, the KNMI said. The weekend was also stormy and strong winds forced the organisers to cancel several Carnaval parades which had been due to be held on Saturday and Sunday.

Tuesday will start out dry but rain, sleet and hail are likely in the afternoon, the KNMI said. The temperature will be around 8 Celsius.

There is little change for the rest of the week, with showers most days, although there may be some sun on Thursday. The KNMI’s long-range forecast sees little change in the current unsettled weather patterns well into March.
