This year’s Pride boat parade in Amsterdam in August will include boats from the United Nations’ refugee organisation UNHCR, a Romanian boat, a motorbike club and one from Pink Nieuw West, which supports the LHBT community in western Amsterdam.

In total, 95 organisations applied for one of the 80 permits to take part in the boat parade, the climax of the annual Pride celebrations, the organisers said at Sunday’s launch.

The organisers had come under fire in recent years for becoming too commercial but stress that corporate sponsorship is a major source of income for the event.

This year KPN, pharmaceuticals company MSD and fashion group PVH are among the corporate boat sponsors.

The Pride celebrations start on July 25 and end on August 2 this year. The boat parade is on Saturday, August 1.
