A district policeman has posted an appeal on social media about an apparently desperate case of nuisance neighbours that has led one family to coat their home in silver foil.

Bas Wijnen, a local policeman in Alkmaar, has shared his worries on Twitter and Instagram about a family so driven to distraction by noise nuisance from next door that they now sleep under crumpled aluminium foil.

He wrote that despite a long-running court case, the noise nuisance has continued.

‘I keep brooding over this: what can I do for these people?’ he wrote on an Instagram and Twitter post. ‘These people are so desperate that they have “wrapped” their whole house and sleep under foil just to get a bit of rest.’

He wrote that the housing association, local council and even television show De Rijdende Rechter have been involved, and a civil court case has been dragging on for months thanks to appeals.

It is one of two cases of ‘noise nuisance/harrassment’ in De Mare, he wrote, that have been going on for years without resolution.

DutchNews.nl has asked the policeman for a comment.
