The Dutch will spend €341 per person on food, drink and presents during the December holiday season, according to research by accountancy group Deloitte, and quoted by the Financieele Dagblad.

This is €120 below the average in the seven countries in survey – Britain, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Russia, Poland and the Netherlands.

Deloitte says the Dutch will spend an average of €122 on presents and €109 on food and drink – the lowest in both categories for the seven countries.

Britain tops the list for buying presents, with an average bill of €336 while in Spain, spending hits €173 per person on festive food and drink.

The Dutch figures include spending on Sinterklaas on December 5, which accounts for around a quarter of total spending, the FD said.
