The man seriously injured in Wednesday’s shooting outside a pizzeria in Amsterdam West was a Serbian criminal who had survived several previous attempts on his life, according to Serbian media.

Jovan Djorovic was seriously injured in the shooting, which killed pizzeria owner Goran Savic.

One person was arrested shortly after the incident but police say another person may have been involved. They have appealed for eyewitnesses to come forward.

Serbian media say Savic and Djurovic were friends and eyewitnesses say Savic may have been trying to protect Djurovic from the attack.

According to the Telegraaf, Djurovic is the third man from the former Yugoslavia to be shot dead in the capital this year.
