A couple have been found dead in their home in the village of Hengelo in Gelderland and their son has been arrested, the AD said on Monday morning.

Earlier reports had suggested the bodies of the couple were found in the Overijssel town of Hengelo.

A neighbour told the paper he heard a scream from the family home, followed by a lot of police activity. Neighbours also said the couple had two sons, one of whom still lived at home.

Other sources told the AD the son had reported to the local hospital’s accident and emergency department and that there was a skirmish of some sort. The hospital has confirmed there was ‘an incident’.

The young man, said by sources to be ‘depressed’, is being treated in hospital, the AD said.

The father, a graphic designer by trade, is known in the village as a ‘very friendly man’ and a keen cyclist. Neighbours described the family as ‘completely normal’.
