The Netherlands could be in for the first frost of the meteorological autumn this week, according to predictions by weather bureau Weerplaza on Monday.

The temperature in central, southern and eastern parts of the country could dip below zero in the coming nights, Weerplaza said. Monday night will be clear and the wind will drop away so the temperature can go down sharply, weather forecaster Wilfred Janssen said. ‘There could be frost on the ground in places.’

The first frosts of the autumn usually occur around September 15.

The KNMI weather bureau is less pessimistic. It sees night temperatures dropping to 4 Celsius on Monday night and 6 Celsius on Tuesday and Wednesday, before rising again towards the end of the week.

During the day it will be mainly dry with sunny spells, apart from on Wednesday, when some rain is forecast. Temperatures will be around 19 Celsius.
