Jip and Janneke should prepare for global mispronunciation of their names. Dutch store Hema has announced that it is expanding to the United States and Canada through a deal with Walmart.

In America, reports NOS, it will sell via Walmart’s online shops and in Canada it will open its own mini-sites within Walmart stores – named Hema Amsterdam, like other foreign stores.

‘We are extremely proud of our co-operation with Walmart, the largest retailer in the world,’ chief executive Tjeerd Jegen reportedly said.

Last year the Dutch company was taken over by businessman Marcel Boekhoorn. The board was halved in size late last year and new pay and conditions for Dutch workers agreed last month slashed the maximum earnings for new employees.
