A man who murdered his former girlfriend, a trainee nurse, has been jailed for 15 years to be followed by compulsory psychiatric treatment, by judges in Utrecht.

Laura Korsman was found stabbed to death in her student home on July 11 last year. Police say she had at least 30 wounds on her body.

‘You have harassed her in a manipulative manner and you have consistently stalked her,’ the court said in its ruling. ‘She was terrified and had reached the end of her tether.’

Two weeks before her death she had made a police complaint about being stalked by Zamir M after he had forced his way into her building, punctured her bike tyres and made a nuisance of himself at her job.

Police had given her an alarm button as protection.

On the night of Laura’s death, M accessed her home via the balcony after tricking her neighbours. He has admitted waiting for Laura to come home from a concert at the Melkweg in Amsterdam, wearing plastic gloves and holding a knife.

Claims that he was under the influence of drugs at the time were dismissed by the prosecution as a ‘strategic statement’. He also claimed in court that Laura had attacked him.

‘Absolutely no information has come up in the investigation to support this,’ the court said.
