More points for Dutch Eurovision winner after ‘human error’

The Dutch Eurovision Song Festival winner has been given more votes in an unusual revision of the voting tallies by the organisers, who say ‘human error’ led to a mistake.

The Belarus jury now say they gave the wrong points to the wrong country – and the 12 points awarded to Israel, for example, should have gone to Malta, the AD said.

The top four in the list remains unchanged, but Duncan Laurence’s song Arcade got six more points, taking its total to 498.

‘The EBU can confirm, following standard review practices, we have discovered that due to a human error an incorrect aggregated result was used,’ the European Broadcasting Union said in a statement.

‘This had no impact on the calculation of points derived from televoting across the 41 participating countries and the overall winner and top four songs remain unchanged.’

The EBU said it and partners Digame and Ernst & Young ‘deeply regret’ that this error was not identified earlier and will review the processes and controls in place to prevent this from happening again.
