A goal by right back Noussair Mazraoui two minutes into extra time gave Ajax a 1-0 home win over Benfica of Portugal in their Tuesday Champions League tie.

The win puts the Amsterdammers in the joint lead in Group E alongside Bayern Munich, with seven points from three games and identical goal tallies.

The victory means Ajax have won all five of their home Champions League matches this season, including the qualifying games.

‘Even though it was goalless towards the end of the game I still wanted to get forward,’ Mazraoui told Uefa.com after the game. ‘That shows the way we like to play; with attacking full-backs. So maybe it’s not surprising that both myself and Nicolás [Tagliafico] have each scored twice in the Champions League so far.’

PSV Eindhoven, currently in third place in Group B, meet bottom placed Tottenham Hotspur at home in their next Champions League match on Wednesday evening.
