KLM has reached an agreement with pilot unions over a new pay-and-conditions pact (CAO), the Dutch flag carrier said on Wednesday.

Terms of the agreement will not be released until they have been presented by pilots union VNV to its 2,800 members who fly for the Dutch flag carrier.

Earlier this year, the VNV had threatened strike action unless improved terms were agreed. KLM said these have been accepted after ‘long and intensive talks’ with the union, the Financieele Dagblad reported on Wednesday.

The agreement boosts the position of KLM president Pieter Elbers who concluded a similar CAO with cabin staff in January.

Elbers’ position stands in sharp contrast to that of Jean-Marc Janaillac who heads Air France, KLM’s partner in the AF-KLM alliance. Janaillac has said he will step down unless AF staff accept his salary offer.

Air France has lost €300m so far this year through 11 strikes. These disruptions threaten to skew the balance within the Air France KLM joint venture, the FD said.
