Heavy rain in parts of the Netherlands on Sunday night caused flash flooding in places, particularly in Limburg and Kerkrade.

Problems with excess water were also reported in Tilburg, Rotterdam, Zaandam and Amsterdam, news agency ANP said.

The KNMI weather bureau had issued a code yellow weather warning ahead of the forecast storms, which also caused problems in neighbouring Belgium.

Heavy rain is also forecast on Monday but from Wednesday, the weather will improve and the temperature could rise to as much as 20 degrees by the weekend, the KNMI said.
