Thierry Baudet, leader of the two-MP Forum voor Democratie party, has pulled out of this Friday’s big local election radio broadcast, saying he does not want to debate with D66 leader Alexander Pechtold.
Baudet is the second party leader to pull out of the radio event. Earlier, Geert Wilders, leader of the PVV said he would not take part in ‘NOS radio nonsense’.
Baudet and Pechtold have clashed several times and the FvD leader has accused his D66 counterpart of trying to demonise him. He has also tried to bring libel charges against D66 minister Kajsa Ollongren.
Meanwhile in Hengelo, PVV campaign leader Jordi Rietman has pulled out of the election because of the ‘strong reactions and emotions’ from his family. Rietman recently gave an interview in local paper Tubantia in which he called for the closure of the town’s mosque and Islamic primary school.
