Dutch croquette maker in Canadian hands

mora croquettenThe Dutch competition authority has cleared the way for Canadian French fry maker McCain to take a majority stake in Dutch snack maker Van Geloven, which includes Mona croquettes on its menu.

The ACM said in a statement that sufficient competition will remain in the fried snack sector after the takeover.

Four years ago, rival snack maker Royaan attempted to take over the company but that floundered on competition grounds.

Van Geloven was taken over last year by British private equity group TowerBrook Capital which is retaining a minority stake. Van Geloven, which booked sales of €197m last year, also owns the bitterball maker De Bourgondier and sate specialist Hebro.
