Sven Kramer wins 8th European allround skating title

The 29-year-old dominated the event from the start and finished well ahead of Belgium’s Bart Swings who took silver.

Dutchman Jan Blokhuijsen, who took the European title in 2014, was third.

Kramer won the 5,000 and 10,000 metre events, was fourth in the 500 metres and fifth in the 1,500 metres. The four races make up the allround title.

In the women’s event, Martina Sablikova of the Czech Republic successfully defended her title against Ireen Wust of the Netherlands.

Wust, who has won the European title four times, took silver. Antoinette de Jong took bronze in the first medal place of her career.

The women’s event comprises the 500, 1,500, 3,000 and 5,000 metres.
