At least two killed as 150 cars involved in Zeeland pile-ups (update)

At least 150 cars have been involved in pile-ups and collisions on the A58 highway in Zeeland as heavy mist reduced visibility to a few metres, police say.

At least two people have been killed in the accidents, which took place between Goes and Middelburg. Parts of the road have been closed because of the accidents and may remain out of action all day.

Dozens of ambulances have been brought in to cope with ‘a large number of injuries’, news agency ANP reports. Eleven people are reported to be seriously injured.

The situation is one of ‘enormous chaos’ which is likely to continue for the rest of the day and the A58 should be avoided, the police say.
