The government will closely monitor the public and private sector’s efforts to create jobs for people with disabilities, junior social affairs minister Jetta Klijnsma said on Monday.
Government, employers and unions have agreed to create 125,000 jobs by 2026 for people with disabilities and if progress is not made, quotas will be introduced, Klijnsma said in a briefing to parliament.
From 2015, local councils will have responsibility for disabled workers and helping them find jobs. The current network of sheltered workplaces will largely be abolished and companies will be able to apply for subsidies so they can pay at least minimum wage rates.
Klijnsma said she expects 140,000 of the 240,000 young people currently claiming incapacity benefits will be able to work.
