Two people, possibly Polish nationals, have been killed in an explosion and fire above a café in the Gelderland town of Brummen, Nos television reports.

The cause of the blast at around 01.00 hours on Monday morning is not yet known, nor if there were more people in the property at the time.

Fire crews from Apeldoorn, Zutphen and Eerbeek were involved in trying to douse the flames, which took several hours, Nos said.
