Minister backs 130 kph speed limit on much of the A2

Transport minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen backs raising the speed limit on long stretches of the A2 motorway to 130 kph.

The minister said in answer to MPs questions she expects the speed limit to be increased on most of the road, apart from areas where safety concerns would prevent it, such as at Leidsche Rijn and Maastricht.

Some parts of the road between Amsterdam and Utrecht currently have a 100 kph limit despite being five-lanes wide. A permanent speed trap operates on one section and hundreds of thousands of motorists have been fined.
