Air safety experts investigate Schiphol ‘near miss’

Air safety experts are investigating a near miss between two aircraft which were heading directly at each other some 600m from the ground close to Schiphol airport last month, the Volkskrant reports.

The two planes, one from KLM and one from Garuda, were just 15 seconds from colliding when the accident was averted, the paper says. The incident took place at 07.44 hours on November 13.
The problem centres on the use of two parallel runways at the same time, the paper says. A compulsory difference in altitude of 300m should eradicate the problem but in this case, both aircraft were flying at the same height.
Neither Schiphol airport or KLM will comment on the incident, the paper said.
