Some 350 people have been diagnosed with salmonella after eating infected smoked salmon from Harderwijk fish firm Foppen, the public health institute RIVM said on Thursday.
The actual total will probably be higher, possibly in the thousands, a spokesman is quoted as saying in the NRC.
Earlier on Thursday, the Dutch food safety body NVWA said the infected smoked salmon has also been used in salads and spreads.
The contaminated products have been removed from supermarket shelves but the NVWA says consumers should not eat any Foppen products still in their fridges. In the Netherlands, Foppen supplies fish products to supermarket chains Albert Heijn, Plus and Aldi.
The source of the infection has not yet been traced but Foppen said earlier this week there is a large chance the infected fish comes from its Greek production line.
