Starbucks opens concept store in Amsterdam

American coffee chain Starbucks is opening a new store on the Rembrandtplein in Amsterdam on Friday where it will experiment with and develop new types of coffee and food concepts.

Known as The Bank, the new store is situated in a 430 square metre subterranean space in the vault of a former bank and is the first of its kind in Europe. What works in The Bank will then be available in other Starbucks around the world, the company said.
The company chose Amsterdam for the concept store because its European headquarters and its roasting facility for Europe, the Middle-East and Africa are located in the city.
