The Dutch economy needs more farmers, truckers and healthcare workers rather than bankers and journalists, according to an analysis of the labour market by researchers at Maastricht University.

‘There is no further need for complicated bank and insurance products,’ researcher Frank Corvers told the Volkskrant, when asked why there was declining demand for insurance agents, accountants and book-keepers.
By contrast, the greying population means there will be growing demand for healthcare workers – the only sector where the number of jobs is actually set to increase, the research showed.
Farming
There also appears to be an end to the consolidation process in the agricultural sector, opening up the way for smaller farmers, Corvers said.
Truckers will also be in short supply because older generations are over-represented in the current workforce.
The research also shows that unemployment under school leavers has gone up from 6.5% four years ago to 8% while wages, corrected for inflation, have gone down 1%.
