Drunk driver faces seven years for killing cyclist

A 35-year-old man who killed an 18-year-old cyclist after drunk driving should be jailed for seven years and lose his licence for 10, public prosecutors told a court in Alkmaar on Friday.

The man had consumed 2.5 litres of beer, four vodkas and smoked two cannabis cigarettes when he drove off along a dike road at speeds of up to 120 kph.
The body of his victim was later recovered from the Noord Holland canal.
