Two are arrested in connection with 1992 disappearance

A 66-year-old woman and her 38-year-old son have been arrested in connection with the disappearance of a 15-year-old foster child from their farm in Drente in 1992.

The area round the farm has been sealed off and police now say they are assuming the girl has been killed. ‘The two are being questioned and their homes searched,’ a public prosecution department spokesman told the NRC.
The department has admitted treating the case as a disappearance rather than serious crime in 1992, the paper says. However, the investigation was reopened last year as a cold case.
The girl, Willeke Dost, was living with the woman, her husband and son when she vanished. Dost’s parents had been killed in a car crash when she was a baby.
A week before she disappeared she allegedly told a friend she was pregnant, according to a tv programme in 2004. Her foster father, who has since died, denied the claim.
