TV crime show drops psychiatric prison footage

TV crime reporter Peter R de Vries pulled secretly-recorded footage of a jailed child killer in psychiatric prison after judges threatened him with a €500,000 fine.

The show was broadcast on Sunday night using an actor to read out a transcript of the recorded conversation over video of another actor slumped on a prison sofa.
The show was the third in a series made by De Vries about Koos Hertogs, found guilty of killing three girls in the 1980s.
In Sunday night’s episode, De Vries claimed Hertogs had a homosexual relationship with the high court judge who let him off on an armed robbery charge in the 1970s. The judge is now dead.
Hertogs killed the first girl two years later.
The programme also claimed the judge paid for Hertogs to have driving lessons and helped find him a psychiatrist after the first murder.
Earlier programmes featured Hertogs telling how he killed the girls and showed how he is able to watch pornography smuggled into his cell by an old childhood friend. That friend made the secret recordings on De Vries’ behalf.
