Groningen slammed for stadium fire

Groningen football club has been heavily criticised for the way it handled a fire at its Euroborg stadium prior to a match against Ajax in April.

Twenty-eight people were taken to hospital after flaming toilet rolls were thrown around the stadium, setting fire to seats. The match was abandoned because of the smoke.
The report said the club did not take the safety of supporters seriously enough. It did not recognise the fire risks associated with distributing 15,000 rolls of toilet paper to throw on the pitch, the fire brigade was not phoned promptly enough and fire hoses did not work properly because there was no water pressure.
