Predictions

The Telegraaf this morning has a long list of all the legal changes that came into effect yesterday. We will all have to spend more this year because of increases in child, unemployment and invalidity benefit payments plus higher pensions.

New taxi tariffs have been introduced so we only have to pay for the number of kilometres travelled rather than how long a journey takes. People who want to go fishing will now need a permit (the vispas) and immigrants from outside the EU will have to take the new integration (inburgering) exam.
The Volkskrant’s predictions for 2007 include a Christian Democrat/Labour/ChristenUnie government with Labour leader Wouter Bos as finance minister. And the paper envisages questions in parliament when it emerges that new rules to encourage students to study abroad have not led to an increased uptake of courses in the UK and US, but in sunny Spain.
