The Vereninging van de Nederlandse Chemische Industrie represents some 600 firms and organisations active in the Dutch chemical sector, of which Shell, DSM and Akzo Nobel are the biggest. With 57,000 workers, the sector generated sales of some €51bn in 2013 (roughly 3% of gross domestic product) and accounts for 20% of Dutch exports.
