Burgernet (citizens’ network) was launched in November 2008 by the home affairs minister as an ‘unique cooperation between citizens, councils and police to improve safety where you live and work’. The idea is to use the eyes and ears of the 16,500 members of the public who have signed up (so far) to track down people wanted by the police.
