The bachelor and master degree system, which the Netherlands adopted in 2002, is known in academic circles as the bama. Students can follow a bachelor curriculum at both university and at HBO college, but the master degree is more restricted. In 2015, almost seven in 10 Dutch students now pass a bachelor’s degree within four years, compared with just 56% in 2011.The scrapping of student grants and tougher pass rules for first years are said to be responsible.
