Dutch health authorities have warned people not to buy French condom brands online that have been recalled because of concerns that they tear too easily.

The French government ordered a recall of seven million prophylactics sold under 10 different brand names across the EU.

The ultra-thin products were manufactured in Malaysia by Richter Robber Technology, but French authorities found discrepancies in the quality and thickness of the latex, breaching safety regulations.

The labels range from big brands to smaller producers that make fair trade or sustainable condoms and include Vitalis, Einhorn, ON and Joy Division.

The healthcare and youth care inspectorate IGJ warned consumers and importers not to buy the condoms because of the risk of spreading STIs. It said it would wait to see if further measures were necessary to prevent them being sold illegally.

French and Dutch authorities have advised anyone who has used the condoms to have themselves tested for STIs. Women should take pregnancy tests if their period is late.

The full list is available on the French government’s website for recalled products, Rappel.
